Aspiring Entrepreneurs Given Business Masterclass
On Thursday, the 5th of September 2024, Business Gateway West Lothian hosted an exciting free event for new and aspiring entrepreneurs at Whitburn Partnership Centre.
The purpose of the ‘Simplifying the Business Start Up Process’ event was to give local residents the information they need to confidently turn their business idea into a successful new venture. A wide range of topics were covered, including developing a strategic business plan, building a strong brand from nothing, implementing sustainable practices, and accessing financial support. An informative panel also took place featuring local business owners who shared how support from Business Gateway West Lothian helped them launch their dream businesses.

Funding for Businesses in West Lothian
The Invest in West Lothian team have extensive experience of preparing funding packages for local businesses of all sizes. Each month, we will highlight a new funding opportunity that is currently available to eligible businesses in the area.
Energy Efficiency Audit
We are thrilled to offer eligible West Lothian businesses the opportunity to have a fully funded Energy Efficiency Audit carried out by a sustainability consultant. This is available through our Expert Help Programme, which is part funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
During the audit, the consultant will work with you on a 1:1 basis to analyse the existing systems, processes, and equipment used within your business. They will then provide helpful recommendations for positive changes that can be implemented, for example, installing LED lighting or switching to an electric heating system. Your business may then be eligible for funding of up to £8,000 to support the implementation of the changes with our exciting Low Carbon Grant!
This is a great opportunity for West Lothian businesses that are ready to improve sustainability, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.

Jobs Fair
Whether you are looking to return to work or are simply considering a career change, come along to Access2Employment’s free Jobs Fair and meet employers from different industries in West Lothian. This is taking place on Wednesday, the 9th of October, from 11:00am – 2:00pm (drop in at anytime) at Howden Park Centre in Livingston.
Career Growth Programme for Women
Are you ready to develop your career and take on a more senior role within your company? Join us for our exciting new ‘Career Growth Programme for Women,’ delivered by Michelle Brown. By the end of the programme, you will have a career plan with clear goals and timeframes, and be more confident to set your sights high and achieve your personal career journey goals. This is a 4-part programme taking place weekly from 9:30am – 12:30pm, beginning on Wednesday, the 23st of October, at the Scottish Procurement Alliance Partnership Hub in Livingston.
1:1 Procurement Surgery Sessions
There is very limited availability remaining on Tuesday, the 29th of October for a free, 1:1 virtual surgery session with procurement expert Mandy Millar from Intend Business Development Ltd. These sessions have been created to help West Lothian business owners improve their understanding of the procurement process and improve their success rate with tender bids. Sessions last 1-hour and take place virtually.
