On Tuesday, the 18th of March, Business Gateway West Lothian hosted its 3rd ‘Simplifying the Business Start Up Process’ event for new and aspiring business owners.
The event took place at West Lothian College in Livingston and was well attended by local residents that have recently started, or are thinking of starting, their own businesses.
It began with Business Gateway West Lothian’s Business Start Up Adviser, Laura Brown, breaking down the wide range of support that is available to new businesses in West Lothian. This includes support with business planning, financial forecasting, market research, accessing free resources, and applying for funding opportunities.
Business Sustainability Adviser, Amanda Lamb, then highlighted the benefits of implementing sustainable working practices and provided recommendations of simple actions that new businesses can take that are not only sustainable, but also improve productivity and efficiency.
Guest speaker Michelle Brown, Director of Michelle Brown PR, then discussed the importance of building a strong brand and shared helpful tips with attendees, who got involved by sharing their favourite brands and considering what characteristics they could implement in their own businesses.
The event ended with an exciting panel with local business owners Laura MacMillan, Owner of Tricycle Treats; Nadia McKay, Owner of Nexa IQ Ltd; and Sarah Eaton, Owner of Bonnie Braids by Sarah. The panellists shared their business journeys and lessons they have learned along the way. This was a highlight with attendees, with many remarking that they felt motivated to move forward with their own businesses after hearing their inspiring stories.
There was also dedicated time for networking at the beginning and end of the event, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with each other and to speak to the Business Gateway West Lothian advisers in attendance.
“It was fantastic to be joined by so many local residents at our latest ‘Simplifying the Business Start Up Process’ event,” said Business Gateway West Lothian Team Leader, Linzi Winton. “We are delighted that attendees enjoyed learning about the support that we provide and are looking forward to helping them successfully launch their own dream businesses.”
